How long does Bupropion take to work?

Most antidepressants require 2–4 weeks to produce noticeable improvement, with full effect at 6–8 weeks.

Can Bupropion be stopped suddenly?

Never stop antidepressants abruptly — discontinuation syndrome (dizziness, flu-like symptoms, electric shock sensations) can occur. Taper gradually over weeks under physician supervision. SSRIs/SNRIs and paroxetine particularly require slow tapering. TCAs should be reduced slowly.

Does Bupropion cause sexual dysfunction?

SSRIs and many TCAs cause sexual dysfunction (reduced libido, delayed orgasm) in 30–60% of patients — a major cause of non-adherence. Bupropion is uniquely associated with minimal or no sexual dysfunction. Mirtazapine, tianeptine, and agomelatine also have lower sexual dysfunction rates.

Is Bupropion addictive?

Standard antidepressants do not cause addiction in the classical sense, though physical discontinuation symptoms can occur with abrupt stopping.

Can Bupropion and alcohol be combined?

Alcohol and antidepressants/anxiolytics interact unfavourably — increased CNS depression, worsened mood, reduced efficacy. Alcohol should be minimised or avoided during treatment with any psychotropic medication.
