How it works

Abiraterone inhibits CYP17, an enzyme necessary for androgen production in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumors. This leads to decreased levels of testosterone and other androgens, which are known to stimulate the growth of prostate cancer cells.

• Treatment of Prostate Cancer: Specifically used for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC), often in combination with other treatments such as prednisone.
